Cosmetic Dentistry FAQs
-
The best place to start is with a consultation at our Port Lincoln clinic. Every smile is different, so one of our dentists will assess your teeth, discuss what you'd like to change, and recommend the most suitable options. For example, if your teeth are healthy but discoloured, professional whitening may be all you need. If you have chipped, worn or uneven teeth, veneers or dental bonding might be a better fit. We'll explain the pros and cons of each option so you can make an informed decision.
-
Costs vary depending on the treatment and complexity. As a guide, clear aligner treatment ranges from $4,500 for minor corrections up to $8,500 for complex cases. A single dental implant is approximately $5,500. For other cosmetic treatments such as teeth whitening and veneers, costs depend on your individual needs — we provide a detailed, itemised treatment plan before any work begins. We can check your health fund rebate on the spot using our HICAPS terminal, and payment plans are available through Afterpay and MediPay.
-
Many cosmetic treatments attract a health fund rebate, particularly crowns, veneers and dental implants, provided they're included in your extras cover. Curran Dental is a nib First Choice Provider, and we accept all major health funds. We can check your estimated out-of-pocket cost at the time of your consultation. Some treatments may also be partially covered under government schemes including the General Dental Scheme (GDS) and DVA — ask our team for details.
-
Yes. All cosmetic treatments we offer are performed by qualified, experienced dentists using proven materials and techniques. Procedures like teeth whitening, veneers and dental bonding are non-invasive or minimally invasive with very low risk when carried out professionally. For surgical procedures like dental implants, we discuss all potential risks with you beforehand and offer sedation options including oral sedation, nitrous oxide (happy gas) and IV twilight sedation. Our clinic is QIP accredited, meaning we meet national standards for safety and quality.
-
Veneers are custom-designed, thin tooth-coloured shells that cover the front surface of a tooth — they're ideal for improving the appearance of teeth that are chipped, stained or slightly uneven, with minimal removal of natural tooth structure. Crowns fit over the entire tooth and are typically recommended when a tooth is more significantly damaged or weakened. Both options are custom-made to match your natural teeth. During your consultation, we'll recommend which option best suits your situation.
-
At Curran Dental we offer both Invisalign and Spark clear aligners. All clear aligner treatments work on the same principle — a series of custom-made, removable trays that gradually straighten your teeth. The main differences between systems are in the aligner material, treatment planning software and case suitability. During your orthodontic assessment, we'll recommend the best system for your specific needs. Clear aligner treatment typically involves an initial assessment, a digital treatment plan (called a ClinCheck), aligner fitting and regular review appointments.
-
This depends on the treatment. Porcelain veneers typically last 10–15 years or longer with proper care. Dental implants have a greater than 95% success rate and, with good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, can last a lifetime. Clear aligner results are maintained long-term with retainer wear as directed — retainers should be worn for a minimum of two years after treatment. Your dentist will give you specific aftercare guidance for whatever treatment you choose.
